Privacy and data handling

How website inquiries, automated chat, visit measurement and device data are handled.

Who handles your inquiry

Columbus Electronics Repair uses information you provide to answer repair questions, arrange service and manage repair requests. For a privacy question or a request to access, correct or remove your information, call or text (614) 532-3353. We may need to verify that the request concerns your information.

Callback form and repair records

The callback form collects your phone number and any name, device and problem details you choose to provide. Submitting it asks us to call or text about that inquiry. These details are saved on our server and are available in the owner’s repair tracker. The callback form does not send its contents to the AI assistant.

We use a notification service to alert the owner that a request was received. The alert links to the owner’s protected customer inbox; it does not include your name, phone number, device or problem description. A saved request is not a confirmed appointment or response-time guarantee.

Callback and repair records currently have no automatic deletion deadline. They may be kept for inquiry follow-up, repair history and warranty handling. Contact us to discuss removal; records needed for an ongoing service or other applicable obligations may need to be retained. Copies in service records or backups may require separate handling.

Automated repair chat

Chat questions and the conversation context are sent through our server to Anthropic to generate automated answers. Do not put passwords, device passcodes, payment details, identification documents or private files in chat. Use the callback form or call/text for personal contact arrangements.

New website chat transcripts are not saved locally by our chat service. Older transcripts from before this update may still exist; you can request their removal. The AI provider processes messages under its commercial service terms; see Anthropic’s API data-retention information. Automated answers may be incomplete or wrong; confirm diagnosis, pricing and arrangements with a person.

Website providers

Hosting and delivery providers process technical connection information, such as IP addresses and request details, to serve and protect the website. Cloudflare provides website delivery, security and performance measurement; see Cloudflare’s privacy policy. Provider retention and logging may differ from the first-party measurement described below.

Visit and inquiry measurement

We record page views, call-link and text-link clicks, and opening the chat or callback form. A random identifier stored for the browser session groups these actions. We do not include contact fields, chat messages, full referrer addresses or URL query strings in these event records. When measurement is enabled and you submit a callback, its record includes the same session identifier so the inquiry can be related to the pages visited and, if converted into a repair ticket, the recorded repair outcome.

A call or text click does not tell us that a conversation took place. Repair outcomes depend on the owner updating the repair tracker. Measurement is incomplete when visitors block scripts or opt out.

Event records older than 30 days are removed when the next event is recorded. Callback and repair records have the separate retention described above. This measurement does not use advertising cookies or identifiers shared across websites.

The site respects the browser’s Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track signals for this first-party visit and click measurement. You can also turn it off here. This choice does not stop callback submissions or essential website-provider security and delivery logs.

JavaScript is required for the optional visit and click measurement.

Data on a device handed over for repair

Back up a working device if possible. Before authorizing work, discuss whether device access is needed, which tests or data transfers are requested, and how any required credentials will be supplied directly. Do not submit credentials through the website.

For recovery work, agree the priority files, delivery method and deletion timing for working copies before work begins. The website does not promise a standard deletion period for recovered files. Ask for the arrangements for your job in writing. Hardware damage, encryption and missing credentials can prevent recovery; a complete backup is not guaranteed.
